First female leader of the Slovenian Rotary Union
A traditional district conference of the Association of the Rotary Clubs Slovenia was held last weekend in Zagorje ob Savi, where the Rotarians awarded their members with acknowledgments for engagement activities in the Association, and carried out the inauguration and handover of the governor chain. Irena Kos took over this important role for the 2019/2020 period, becoming the first woman representative in the governor position.
Zagorje ob Savi, 22 May 2019 – Another district conference of the Association of the Rotary Clubs Slovenia was held to mark the key Rotary mottoes – “Service Above Self” and “One Profits Most Who Serves Best”. The representatives of 48 Rotary Clubs from all over Slovenia made a review of the work of individual clubs at the Delavski dom cultural centre in Zagorje ob Savi, awarded their members, and carried out the inauguration and handover of the governor chain.
The first female was appointed to the governor position – Irena Kos, who celebrates 11 years of her engagement in the Association of the Rotary Clubs Slovenia. She is one of the founding members of the Rotary Club Ljubljana Julija and the Rotary Club Ljubljana Nike, also being the president of the latter for two years. Both clubs have in common the engagement of successful women who are directing their positive energy in doing good and expanding solid friendships.
The newly appointed governor is the initiator and head of many socially beneficial projects; amongst the most revered are the afforestation after the sleet, and the intergenerational cooperation between the club and the retirement homes of Trnovo and Fužine in Ljubljana. In cooperation with RI-Lionspa, she organized a joint New Year’s stand, the profit of which was entirely donated to “Zavod pod strehco” humanitarian institution with public kitchen in Ljubljana being its main activity.By assuming the governor position, Mrs Kos committed herself to the further realization of the mission and key goals of the Association of the Rotary Clubs Slovenia that emphasizes the concern for a fellow human being and the fight for his well-being.
